Touch the Story

14.09.2016 - 04.10.2016

Lokacija: Typhlological Museum

Intensive work of the Department and the First Children’s Library for Visually Impaired Children at the Pećine Elementary in Rijeka on the tactile picture book for blind and visually impaired children started in 2008, when and the First Children’s Library for Visually Impaired Children was opened. Since there was a need to equip the library and there had been almost no tactile picture books for blind and visually impaired children in Croatia, the Library needed to acquire picture books from other countries.

Wishing to popularize the tactile picture book and raise awareness of what a tactile picture book is and isn’t, teachers Tanja Šupe and Javorka Milković held a series of lectures and workshops on that topic, and exhibitions of tactile picture books were held in children’s departments of the city libraries in Rijeka, Poreč, and Pula.

The Department and the Library is cooperating with the Typhlological Museum, so during September, everyone who is interested will learn what a tactile picture book is and how it can be interesting to everyone, not just visually impaired children.

You only need inquisitive fingers that will lead you into the world of picture books, creative ideas, original solutions, and make you realize that everything is possible… Unlike other exhibitions where visitors are asked not to touch the items, we kindly ask you to take your time and touch every single one. Close your eyes and enjoy the pictures!
