On 21 November 2024 the Typhlological Museum hosted the autumn education session “Accessibility for All”.
Held each spring and autumn at the Typhlological Museum, this programme is designed to familiarise the professionals in the field of culture to theoretical as well as practical competences required for interacting with visitors with disabilities. It also encourages reflection on the importance of inclusion and the need for accessible environments and content.
Referring to lecturers and topics, a new concept has been introduced this year, that of modular structure. Lecturers who are experts in various fields of expertise and individuals with disabilities themselves at the same time, addressed topics that expanded knowledge in the area of accessibility, including autism spectrum disorder and assistive technologies in museums.
The Typhlological Museum further underlines its own inclusive activities with such a concept since the lecturers are experts in their respective areas but also persons with disabilities.
Participants learned how to communicate with visitors who are deaf or hard of hearing as well as how to create accessible websites and other digital contents used in the museum. The acquired information, guidelines, knowledge, and experiences provided participants with competencies for quality work with the above mentioned category of visitors.
The education session gathered the following lecturers: Kosjenka Brajdić and Eva Pavić, the Association ASK (Association for autism and other types of neurodiversity, self-representation, and cultural diversity); Željka Sušić and Magda Karavanić, the Typhlological Museum; Ružica Kežman, “Slava Raškaj” Education Centre; Marija Livajušić, Up2Date Centre.
