SUVAG Polyclinic, marking the World Stroke Day

Dash, dash, dot-dot-dash

SUVAG Polyclinic, 26.October 2019, marking the World Stroke Day

Dash, dash, dot-dot-dash

Although stroke is the leading cause of disability in the Republic of Croatia, so far people who have suffered a stroke have not been included in museum programs. Therefore, a program of workshops was designed at the Typhlological Museum, which was financially supported by the Ministry of Culture and intended for stroke victims. The importance of resocialization is extremely important for the continuation of the quality of life of these people, which means engaging in various activities and devising ways to spend free time. With their programs, museums as interpreters of heritage, together with other interested stakeholders - in our case with the association Moždani val and SUVAG Polyclinic - have contributed to this demographic spending their free time in a quality and creative manner. On 26 October 2019, marking World Stroke Day, a workshop titled Dash, dash, dot-dot-dash was held at the SUVAG Polyclinic.

The starting point for the work was a museum exhibit, a sculpture of a boat made by blind artist Ivan Ferlan. The object is touched, explored, described, and then drawn and reinterpreted. It is drawn with the help of three-dimensional didactic material, a puzzle consisting of magnetic points and lines (straight, curved) in different lengths and widths. The drawing is assembled/drawn on a metal plate with the help of the listed elements. Drawing with magnets takes place in stages, from simple to very complex, so this method of working can be adapted to the capabilities and abilities of each participant.

The aim of the project is to improve the quality of life, but also to maintain and increase the sensorimotor abilities of people with neurological diseases and to include new groups of people in museum programs.
