The Development of Care for Blind Persons in Slovenia
Organiser: Typhlological Museum
Curators: Nevenka Ćosić and Morana Vouk Nikolić
This exhibition traces the historical development of care for blind individuals in Slovenia and presents the circumstances surrounding the founding of the first institution for their education and vocational training. A significant portion of the artefacts on display belong to the collections of the Typhlological Museum. The reason is that the Typhlological Museum was originally founded as the museum of the Association of the Blind of Yugoslavia and was therefore tasked with collecting materials related to blind persons from across the former Yugoslavia. Some exhibits are on loan from the Centre IRIS (Centre for Education, Rehabilitation, Inclusion and Counselling for the Blind and Partially Sighted), the successor of the first Slovene institute for the blind founded in 1919. These pieces are now kept in the Slovenian School Museum in Ljubljana.
The exhibition opens on 25 September 2024 at 6 p.m. at the Typhlological Museum.
